ZIMBABWE has stepped up its campaign for the candidacy of Dr Cosmas Zaravaza for the post of Director of the Telecommunication Development Bureau at the International Telecommunication Union ahead of the ITU elective conference in September.
A campaign dinner was held for Dr Zavazava at the ITU World Telecommunication Development Conference taking place in Kigali, Rwanda on Thursday.
“Let us show our unity as Africa to rally behind Dr Zavazava as his wealth of experience will forever transform the telecommunications space of the continent,” said Hon. Dingimuzi Phuti, Deputy Minister of ICT, Posts and courier services.
Zimbabwe’s Ambassador to Rwanda, Dr Charity Manyeruke rallied all Africans in support of Dr Zavazava who is also the SADC candidate.
“Dr Zavazava has demonstrated his abilities even in this current role and there is no doubt that he will be a perfect fit for this role. So let’s not miss this opportunity by supporting him. His victory is not for Zimbabwe, but for the African continent,” she said.
Over dinner, the Zimbabwean delegation also had a meeting with ITU Secretary General Houlin Zhao.
Dr. Zavazava is currently Head of Partnerships for the Department of Digital Development at ITU Headquarters in Switzerland.
His candidacy was also endorsed by the African Union at the last heads of state summit in Addis Ababa.
