Muscat: Oman Tower Company has started to install a number of telecommunications towers in Duqm Special Economic Zone (Sezad), with the aim of improving the performance of the telecommunications network in the area and keeping pace with population growth and urban.
Ing. Azzan bin Said Al Hasani of the Utilities Department of the Duqm Special Economic Zone said Sezad approved and published sketches for the installation of 13 telecommunications towers spread across different locations in the area.
âThe locations were identified after carrying out site visits by a team of specialists from the Public Authority for Special Economic Zones and Free Zones (OPAZ), the Duqm Special Economic Zone, the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) and telecommunications service providers. These visits aim to study the possible ways to strengthen the Zone’s telecommunications network and prioritize the sites where fiber-optic network pylons and switches are installed. Oman Tower Company has started construction of the first towers in the Al Saada district, âAl Hasani noted.
On the other hand, Oman Broadband Company has started to connect a number of fiber optic networks in the commercial district of Duqm Special Economic Zone, in parallel with the start of road network development in the new commercial district.
Al Hasani underlined: âThe Public Authority for Special Economic Zones and Free Zones welcomes the cooperation granted by the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) and service providers to strengthen the telecommunications network in Sezad and provide 5G networks in the next phase to keep pace. with the requirements of the zones.
