The International Space Station

Russia will end its longstanding cooperation with Western countries on the International Space Station until sanctions are lifted.

The head of Roscosmos, Dmitry Rogozin, announced that a timetable for the completion of the ISS project would soon be submitted to the Russian leadership.

The announcement, prompted by international sanctions over the war in Ukraine, is a blow to the future of space exploration.

The space station needs constant maintenance to maintain a stable orbit, and without Russia’s contribution, it may have to be taken out of service much sooner than originally planned.

The announcement puts an end to 23 years of international cooperation.
