Lamborghini built the NFTs with carbon fiber that traveled to the International Space Station.

Italian supercar brand Lamborghini entered the world of non-fungible tokens, or NFTs, by launching “Space Key,” which was reportedly constructed with carbon fiber that went to the International Space Station in 2019. The carbon fiber there has been used in some joint research projects, says Lamborghini.

Now the automaker has added QR codes to those five carbon fiber squares, linking them to an NFT.

NFTs essentially identify fingerprints for digital media. These five carbon fiber squares with QR codes introduced by Lamborghini will be linked to an exclusive digital illustration. However, the nature of the digital media connected to these Lamborghini NFTs is not yet known.

The high-performance luxury car brand is expected to reveal more information about the NFTs soon, including the type of unique art in play and the name of the artist behind it. Lamborghini is also expected to reveal details of the auction house selling these items. With this decision, the automaker has joined the current NFT trend.

Speaking about the NFTs introduced by the Italian automaker, Lamborghini CEO Stephan Winkelmann said that these digital tokens embody the legacy of innovation that is a deeply rooted part of the automaker’s DNA.

“As a leading company in the field of carbon fiber composite materials in the automotive sector, we pushed the limits two and a half years ago with the joint research project in space. Today, the “Entry into the metaverse is once again proof that Lamborghini is always moving towards new horizons. The NFT world calls out to us, and we are thrilled to engage with this very passionate and innovative community,” added Winkelmann.

Interestingly, Lamborghini has been teasing space-age teasers with its supercars on social media for the past two weeks. Obviously, the supercar brand was teasing NFTs back in space.
