KOTA BHARU: The Ministry of Communications and Multimedia (KKMM) will hold an engagement session with telecommunications service providers to ensure that facilities available to Malaysians are up to the fees charged.
Its minister, Tan Sri Annuar Musa (pix), said he took note of the costs Malaysians have to bear to cover monthly bills that are still relatively high compared to monthly salaries.
“One of the industries that are holding up in terms of profits, including during the pandemic, is the telecommunications industry.
“Similar to the principle of the Inland Revenue Board (IRB), if you collect more you have to distribute and try to give back to people more, so based on the same spirit, I hope to get the cooperation when I lead the engagement session , so that the existing infrastructure can allow better connectivity not only in terms of availability, but also in terms of quality and speed which justify the costs, ”he said.
He said this at a press conference after presenting donations to 31 beneficiaries of IRB Prihatin’s CSR program at the Kelantan Yayasan Kemiskinan Complex in Padang Kala, Peringat, here today.
Annuar, who is also an MP for Ketereh, stressed that internet access facilities should be seen as a basic right for all.
“InsyaAllah, after a negotiation session and engagement with stakeholders, I will announce improvement measures, not only for connectivity and internet availability, but also for the quality we can provide in this area.
“It requires the cooperation of many parties; the ministry will also take this step because I want the telecommunications industry to remain harmonious and develop well, but at the same time, I must always look out for the interests of consumers and Malaysians in general, ”he said. Bernama
