The UK Internet Service Providers Association (ISPA) has released a shortlist of finalists for its 2022 annual industry awards, which sees various broadband ISPs nominated in several categories. Once again, Exa Networks received the most nominations (4), with CommunityFibre, Giganet, KCOM and Ogi also doing well.
Just to recap. The winners of last year’s event were revealed in November 2021 (here), which among other things saw B4RN walk away with the prize for “Best Rural ISP“, while CommunityFibre recovered both the “Best Consumer ISP” and “Best ultra-fast ISP” award. Meanwhile, Helen Milner (OBE) of the Good Things Foundation was nominated “internet hero” for the group’s efforts in the fight against digital inclusion.
However, the prize categories have been revised for this year’s event, which aims to reflect the changing market for alternative networks. For example, different rewards will now be given to ISPs or infrastructure operators with more than 100,000 customers or franchise premises, as well as those with less than 100,000 customers or franchise premises.
The announcement of all this actually appears to have been posted on the ISPA website last week, but for some reason we haven’t received the press release and no one else seems to have it not covered either. But hopefully better late than never.
ISPA President Steve Leighton said:
“This year’s shortlist of ISPA Awards is a great reflection of the dynamic and exciting broadband industry. From household names, new entrants and scale-ups, to infrastructure builders, suppliers and those serving consumers and businesses, ISPA is pleased to showcase the accomplishments of the past twelve months that saw accelerated fiber deployment, increased data usage and speeds, and more support than ever before for customers struggling with the cost of living. I look forward to seeing the winners announced in November.
As usual, the shortlist for the ‘internet hero‘ and ‘naughty internet‘ (back after a long absence) the awards will be unveiled closer to the ceremony, and ISPA will once again be soliciting suggestions from the public in the coming months. The Awards event itself will take place on November 24, 2022 at the Landmark Hotel in London.
