coreNOC, Inc. Announces Strategic Consulting Agreement to Bring Broadband to Native Communities in Southeast Alaska


OWASSOOk so. , April 29, 2022 /PRNewswire/ — coreNOC, Inc., a leader in the deployment of 5G telecommunications equipment, announced that it has entered into a strategic advisory agreement with the Central Council of Tlingit and Haida Indian Tribes of Alaska (Tlingit and Haida). coreNOC, Inc., a Native American-owned company, understands the challenges and struggles of Indian tribes across North America face because of the existing digital divide.

Earlier this year, Tlingit and Haida collected responses to two broadband surveys that highlighted the critical need for better broadband in rural areas. Southeast Alaska communities. Many communities still lack the connectivity needed to access health care, education, remote employment opportunities and business resources.

Since 2019, Tlingit and Haida have been working with Southeast Alaska village tribes to obtain mid-band spectrum licenses. They created a comprehensive plan to bring broadband to 10,000 people in Southeast Alaska who currently have limited or no access in their area. Recently, the Federal Communications Commissions (FCC) issued the broadband license for the deployment. Funding was secured for a pilot project in Wrangell, Alaskawhich will be completed as part of their new Tidal Network department which will focus on extending fixed wireless internet service to provide broadband services to the community.
